By Eugenia Jimenéz - Spanish lender Bankia has opened a representative office in Casablanca (Morocco) in a bid to support the international expansion of Spanish companies abroad.

The new office will count with a team of three members and will be located in Casablanca, which accounts for 32% of Morocco's GDP and hosts most of the country's bigger national and international corporations.

Jesús Miramón, managing director, international division at Bankia, said: "Bankia takes a step forward to continue backing Spanish businesses wherever they are, which explains our physical presence in foreign countries as the natural evolution of our foreign trade business, a strategic segment for the entity."

We want to be present in those areas around the world with higher Spanish businesses' presence and greatest foreign trade volume. In this sense, Morocco is a key market."

The company also said that the launch aimed at giving response to the growing presence of Spanish enterprises abroad as well as to their global sales income, not to mention the increased investment plans of these businesses beyond their national boundaries.

Miramón added: "We want to be present in those areas around the world with higher Spanish businesses' presence and greatest foreign trade volume. In this sense, Morocco is a key market."
